PAT testing (Portable Appliance Testing) is the process of checking everyday electrical appliances, like kettles, computers, extension leads, and power tools to make sure they’re safe to use.

It involves a visual inspection for any damage or wear, followed by an electrical test with specialist equipment. Each appliance is then labelled with a pass or fail, and you’ll receive a PAT testing certificate to keep for your records.

This simple process helps prevent accidents, keeps your property compliant with UK safety regulations, and gives peace of mind to landlords, businesses, and organisations.

Visual Checks
Spotting signs of wear, tear, or damage.

Electrical Testing
Using calibrated PAT equipment for accurate results.

Pass/Fail Labels
Appliances clearly marked for safety.

PAT Certificate
Full records for landlords, businesses & compliance.

Why PAT Testing is required?

PAT testing is all about keeping people safe and staying compliant. It makes sure your electrical appliances from kettles and computers to power tools and extension leads are safe to use.

In the UK, there’s no single law that says “you must do PAT testing.” But there are important health and safety regulations (like the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Electricity at Work Regulations) that say employers, landlords, and businesses have a duty to keep electrical equipment in safe condition.

That’s where PAT testing comes in:

Insurance – many insurers expect PAT testing as proof you’re meeting safety standards
Landlords – prove that the appliances you provide in rental homes are safe for tenants.
Businesses & Employers – protect staff, customers, and visitors by reducing electrical risks.

By carrying out regular PAT testing, you’re not only protecting people from shocks, fires, or accidents you’re also protecting yourself legally if something ever goes wrong.

We needed an EICR for our rental property in Lichfield. The electrician explained everything clearly and didn’t try to add on extras we didn’t need. Price was exactly as quoted. Really trustworthy service.

Our office in Hednesford needed new LED lighting installed. The team worked around our hours so we didn’t have to close, and the finish looks brilliant. Friendly lads who know what they’re doing

Called them out for a fault with my sockets. They turned up the same day, found the problem straight away and fixed it without any fuss. Left everything tidy too. Would definitely use them again.
